Get to Know: Jason Da Hater
Hate is such a strong word and carries an immense amount of weight. But this guy thrives on it…he feeds it and we like it, or at least that what he says. With his sophomore album, Its Enough Hate to Go Around releasing soon and the launch party this Friday @ Hi-Tone right around the corner, we felt that it was due time for proper introductions. Please check out our next artist in the Get to Know series, Jason Da Hater.
Tell me a bit about the new album?
Well…the new album is called Its Enough Hate to Go Around. And there are no male features except one, Empee and that’s only because he produced a beat. And there are two female emcees featured- Vishnu and Nilaja.
Why no male artists featured?
Well if I allowed other people to feature on it that would be very un-hater like. That would be too generous…too nice as to allow people to collaborate and I’m not with all that.
Okay. So for readers who aren’t too familiar with you, what’s up with the Hater persona?
It’s not really a persona nor is it an alter ego. It’s more so a description. Like Too Tall Jones. He is tall. Like actually tall. His alter ego ain’t that he’s tall. He’s tall. I’m a hater.
Does the hater like anything?
Yeah. The hating. The slang or the new slang is that if you don’t like something someone’s doing you’re automatically hating on it. I mean some stuff ain’t good. Some people ain’t good at what they’re trying to be.
So you got that [the hating] on lock?
On lock? I wouldn’t say that. Just something that comes natural I suppose. Sometimes when you use constructive criticism or give tough love that’s considered hating too. So I guess I give a lot of tough love and a lot of constructive criticism. So therefore, more times than not, I’m hating.
But that’s not hating. That’s love.
Well there are blind people who don’t see that. Don’t comprehend. Don’t understand that. So just to follow along with what they’re saying…yeah you’re right. I’m a hater. You see I’ve said this several times…there’s a difference between me and other haters. See other haters hate behind your back, but it’s off top and known that I’m gone hate so you can accept it a little bit better. It’s very true. If I’m going to hate, I’m going to be the best hater around.
Uh…that’s good.
No doubt.
Do you have any upcoming projects besides this album?
Well previous to the album I dropped a mixtape The Worst Best Rapper in Town (Click to get FREE download) that I’m giving out. Haven’t given them all out. Still giving those out. I am also going to start working on an EP in a couple of weeks. And after that I’m not sure yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be doing something.
