Levi's Pioneer Sessions...

While browsing the internet for new music releases, I (luckily) stumbled across this gem of a project- the Levi's Pioneer Sessions- where they asked a dozen of their favorite pioneering artists spanning from pop, rock, soul to hip hop to record a song. Further sweetening the deal – each song re-crafted by this amazing roster is a song that mattered to them in some special way. Each song is paired with exclusive photos, behind-the-scenes video and additional content that celebrates the enduring importance of the song and the influence it has across generations.

So far, my favorites are "Hey Young World" by Nas (one of my favorites from master storyteller Ricky D aka Slick Rick); "Young Hearts Run Free" by The Swell Season (a classic hit that transitioned singer, Candi Staton, from Southern soul singer to Disco Pop idol); John Legend & The Roots did Ernie Hines' "Our Generation" (later made popular by its sample in Pete Rock & CL Smooth "Straighten It Out"); and Raphael Saadiq's rendition of The Spinners' "Its A Shame"...but I'm not done listening. Check it out for yourself & did I mention that the songs were available as FREE DOWNLOADS?
