Authenticity Resides Here: A recap of The Foreign Exchange's Authenticity Tour

There’s nothing greater than a live show. It’s mostly because of the energy that is given and received from the spectators and the headlining act. It is hands down the best experience to be granted. This past Tuesday night was no exception. Neosoulville in conjunction with The Foreign Exchange Music hosted the latter leg of The Foreign Exchange’s Authenticity Tour at The Rumba Room, Downtown. The venue was packed with good vibes and those who just wanted to enjoy a unique experience in the city. They were not disappointed. The Grammy-nominated duo of Nicolay and Phonte were accompanied by fellow label mate, Lorenzo “Zo!” Ferguson, Sy Smith, and Jeanne Jolly. It was a wonderful sight to see how in tuned the crowd was with the set and more so how receptive the band was to the energy. I thought it was great that the band covered songs from not just their latest project, Authenticity, but also covered songs from their entire discography with the inclusion of songs from Zo’s SunStorm. The best part of the show to me was the appreciation from people who had not heard of the band until that very night. They were now instant fans. Being a fan already of TFE the shows make one truly adore not just the experience but, honestly appreciate just how amazing the gift of music and expression really are. I believe it was also a humbling experience for the band. Before Tuesday, some of them had never been to Memphis let alone played a show here. The exchange between the band and the audience was so much more than an affirmation of the love Memphis feels for this band. I would love to see them come back in the future. Memphis deserves this type of music. And this band needed to see that they have major love here.
