What's in a Name?
From the time I was a teenager until now, I have never really been impressed by people’s names. It took me several years to own, rather like my birth name. I hated my name. Tameka is such a common name (in certain communities) and it seemed that there was always another classmate, friend, or foe in close proximity whose name was also Tameka (usually spelled different, but pronounced the same).
Who's Paying Attention?
After waiting several* weeks to write my first blog (*I use the word several to minimize the exact amount of time that's passed), I wonder if anyone's still paying attention...not just to my absence of words, ideas, thoughts or expressive submissions in this blog (minimizing again...huh?), but to what's going on around us. While gleaning the social networking sites for ideas to blog about, I began to feel quite sheepish. I had an epiphany. I was becoming one of "those people". I was being led around by a trend, or phenomena. I, who love research and varying perspectives from various forms of media (i.e. newspapers, internet, books, magazines, and television), have acquired a social-networking imbalance.
