Becoming... Aimee K. Bryant

Aimee K. Bryant's debut CD “Becoming” is just what the title implies; lyrically, emotionally and thematically BECOMING one of the brightest voices in Soul Music. This cd captures the spirit of the 80's element. I felt as I where listening to a new age Deniece Williams. Aimee's cd is a great approach to a theatrical vocal storytelling. The feel good tunes “Every time” and “Alright” are two grooves that you can jam around the house to. Then there is the Patrice Rushen tracks minus the piano. The controversial cut “NO NIGG* NO”. It's not what you think. Ms. Bryant is expressing to a guy that seems not to get the picture she doesn't want to be bothered with him anymore, but the only way he can comprehend is if she refers to him as nigg* . “This Jones” is a song about a woman being a love junkie. The lyrics “I'm a junkie trying to get high off a song since you can't do right now” shows her incredible vocal range and the womans tale of love woes. The cd starts off with her rendition of “Sweet Honey in the Rock”. This whole cd is good but not one of my favorites so far, but your ears may be better than mine...
