Mmmmm Mmmmm Marcus Miller | Review by Marvina S.

Not many of us may have heard of Marcus Miller by his name, but his work is very notable. This Grammy winning artist has scored over 20 movies including 'Boomerang' and 'This Christmas.' Also, he is responsible for writing the party go-go song "Da Butt" for Spike Lee's “School Daze” to feature his style of jazz. On his debut self titled CD “Marcus” (Concord label) that was released on March 8th 2008, he didn't waste any time getting some of the best guests to appear on his album.

In the right mix of Denise Williams’ Free, Corrine Bailey Rae delivered a stellar performance on this track along with David Sanborn’s tenderness on sax. Another good remake I loved is Robin Thicke’s Lost without you with actress Taraji P. Henson (Baby Boy and Hustle & Flow) there are actually two versions of this song on the CD where she sings background and do it in a Spoken Word format.

He also covered two great classics including Stevie Wonder’s 'Higher Ground' and "Jean-Pierre' by Miles Davis. Both I felt were excellent. On the first song on this 14 track disc, Blast , Marcus allows us into his party cut. It's has a very groovy flow to it.

Others who appear on here are bluesman Keb' Mo, Lalah Hathaway, and Shihan the Poet of Def Comedy Jam. Marcus is a great introduction to any new comer as well as old heads of Jazz/Funk/Spoken Word/Neo-Soul/R&B/ Pop. This CD covers it all. As always don't take my ears for it. You can purchase this CD at www.cdbaby.com and www.marcusmiller.com .

Keep Listening.
