The Thing About Amel...
...is that she has this attitude of public service that is to be admired. Some of us lucky ones were able to experience this first-hand during her AMAZING performance this past Friday night at the Gibson in Downtown Memphis. The crowd was nice and it seemed that most of us wore bright colors for some reason. Hmmm. My coolest cousin Keith and I were just taken and outdone with her talent and beauty. But back to service... It's no secret that today's pop scene is saturated with 'foolery' and a style of arrogance that says "worship me now." Artists want to be idols. But not Amel. She aims to please, even stopped her band and re-started a song just to get it right...for us. Though we hung on every note and lusted for the next, she said aloud,"We've got to give them a good show." Keith and I blushed. We were her celebrities...or at least that's how she made us feel. She even shared her baby with us. "How cool," I thought, "to sing background for your mama."
What a great time we had! More to come.
