Al Bell Returns to Soulsville
Way before the new era of the Black entertainment moguls a la Puffy/Diddy (or whatever he goes by these days) and Jay-Z there was Al Bell...As the President & co-owner of Stax Records, he transformed the burgeoning & integrated mom-and-pop organization to one of the largest black-owned businesses in America. Unfortunately along with the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis came the untimely demise of a legacy- Stax Records.
Fortunate for Memphis, the tides are beginning to change signaling a new hope for Memphis music. One major factor was the appointment of Al Bell as chairman over the Memphis Music Foundation.
